Boston Rugby Club’s Colts won the Plate competition at the Notts, Lincs and Derbyshire Sevens tournament, claiming third place overall.

The Blue and Whites began their pool matches with a comfortable 24-7 victory against Spalding, who saw a player red carded for an illegal challenge, followed by a 29-5 defeat to eventual winners Newark A.

Possession came much more easily against Stamford as seven tries, including a James Andrews hattrick, saw Boston return to winning ways with a 47-12 success, enough to qualify for the plate final and second in the pool.

Boston faced a well-organised and determined Long Eaton side in the final, where they showcased their best rugby of the final.

Olli Balsom found space wide on the left to sprint in for Boston’s first try.

A second and third soon followed and Boston were in control.

Long Eaton fought back with two late tries but Harry Woods sealed the match with Boston’s fourth try to complete a 26-10 victory.
