Boston Rugby Club’s Midlands 3 East (North) clash against Amber Valley was postponed on Saturday.

The basement side confirmed they could not raise a front row to contest the match less than three hours before the scheduled kick off time.

The Blue and Whites will now play the match on January 24.

As a result of the postponement, Boston’s Development XV took centre stage at the Princess Royal Sports Arena, facing Lincoln Thirds.

A number of the club’s promising Colts players made the step up to senior rugby, helped along by more experienced campaigners at the club such as Nigel Lane and Iain Sampson.

With the strong wind making handling difficult, this was not going to be an afternoon of flowing rugby.

Both teams were evenly matched and, for long periods, play centred in the middle of the pitch, with Lincoln winning 10-0.

A try in each half would be the only difference between the two teams.

Boston did come close to scoring on a couple of occasions, but were either held up, or tackled short of the whitewash.

Team manager Dave Loveley ensured all substitutes got onto the pitch for a run out.

On Saturday Boston Firsts are away at Aylstone St James (KO 2.15pm).

The Development side travel to play Gainsborough seconds
