The Boston Buccaneers returned to Rugby League action by hosting the Bedford Tigers in a pre-season.
Fans were treated to an 18-try thriller, which saw the Buccs edged out by a well drilled Tigers team, who won 52-40.
An outstanding first-half performance by hooker Lee Davies saw him score two tries and create two further tries, one for captain Craig Dowse and one for wing Rhys Thompson, on his debut.
Not to be outdone, the Tigers answered with three swift tries of their own.
Only the outstanding tackling of Marc Miles, Alex Ioannou and David Beever preventing more.
Boston fullback John Stanfield, playing against his former club, scored a great solo effort from 75 metres out to further extend the home team’s scoreline.
But the Tigers finished the first half well and levelled at 22-22.
The second half started brightly with both teams trading early tries.
However, it was the experienced Tigers who seized the upper hand after some poor ball handling from Boston and opened up a lead that Boston were never to catch.
Boston didn’t give up and wing Jaron Cowern scored two consolation tries.
Firstly, he showed a great turn of pace to wrong-foot the Tigers’ cover defence.
His second try was as a result of some superb ball handling from Daniel Mackie and Tom Andrews, but it was too little too late for the home side.
