The Boston Buccaneers finished their inaugural season with a 34-16 defeat to Buxton Bulls in the Xamax Challenge Cup.
With several injuries and player unavailability, the coaching staff had their work cut out to field a competitive team.
After 10 minutes it was the hosts who broke the deadlock with a powerful run to score under the posts.
However, after some great ball handling and offloads by Johnny Ledger, Lee Davies made a great break popping the ball to James Andrews to score on his debut.
Will Scupham nailed the kick to tie the game.
It was the Bulls who scored next after some great work by their full back, who used his speed to out sprint the covering Buccaneers defenders.
The Buccs used their trademark quick hands to release their backs and Tom Andrews touched down in the corner to bring the score to 12-10.
The second half didn’t start well for the Buccaneers when playmaker Lee Davies retired with a knee injury.
The Bulls scored two tries in quick succession to put the score out of reach for the Buccaneers.
Eventually the Buccs did get a consolation try through Chris Kellock, with Will Scupham adding the extra point.
