TWO tries from Adham Hasan could not clinch victory as Boston U11s visited Bourne on Sunday, but this was still a much-improved team performance by the visitors.
The whole Boston team stepped up to the mark in this first game of the year, displaying better tackling, organisation and team spirit as they lost their first game 2-1 and drew the second 2-2.
One early try conceded in each game proved Boston’s downfall, the team twice being caught napping as the strong-running Bourne centre carved his way through the visiting defence, but thereafter the Blue and Whites competed well, playing the superior rugby.
Jack Bell’s bullocking run to the line put Boston on the scoreboard in the first game, and only a saving tackle in the corner halted Ben Moody’s run to the line and what would have been an equalising effort.
Game two saw Hasan bag his brace, adding try-scoring to his hard-hitting defence, while a late saving tackle from the tenacious Jay Gardner prevented Bourne scoring a late breakaway score to secure what would have been an ill-deserved second win.
