Paul Jarvis’ hopes of helping the Doncaster Knights to the Aviva Premiership came to an end on Wednesday night.
The former Boston Rugby Club first teamer was part of the Donny squad which beat Bristol 34-32 at Ashton Gate.
However, the narrow second-leg success wasn’t enough as Bristol’s 28-13 victory in Yorkshire seven days earlier was enough to ensure they won the Championship Final and booked their place in the union code’s top flight.
Jarvis was also on the scoresheet on Wednesday.
The player came through Boston’s youth ranks before forcing his way into the Blue and Whites’ First XV.
He then left the Princess Royal Sports Arena club to take up a place at Hartpury College.
Doncaster finished second in the RFU Championship season.
However, Bristol topped the table by 16 points and their dominance was evident as they progressed.
