Midlands 3 East (North)

Boston RFC 5

Kesteven 66

Boston Rugby Club’s relegation from the Midlands 3 East (North) was confirmed following a heavy defeat againstt Kesteven.

The Blue and Whites knew anything but a victory would condemn them to the drop, while Kesteven went into the contest with the incentive of claiming the points to be crowned champions.

Kesteven were highly motivated and, playing with the strong wind and slope advantage, raced into a 19-point lead, scoring three tries within 10 minutes.

To Boston’s credit, they battled to keep in the game and when they had the ball, which was not often, they looked to attack Kesteven out wide.

The scoreboard continued to turn over to see Boston enter half time 0-40 behind.

The second half was a more even affair, as good tactical kicking from Herbie Laidlaw and Zac Chapman pinned Kesteven in their own half.

The hail and wind made handling difficult for both sides.

Boston did managed to score through a kick and chase by James Andrews inside Kesteven’s 22 halfway through the second half.

The day, however, belonged to Kesteven, who deservedly won.

With this season now over, Boston will look to regroup and prepare for the forthcoming season in their new surroundings.
