KICKBOXER Jason Smalley will be representing Great Britain on international duty.

He will be fighting for the nation in the International Sport Kickboxing Association World Championships in Valenburg, Holland, from October 31 to November 3.

He was picked from hundreds of martial artists across Great Britain to compete after attending squad training sessions.

Jason - who runs the Zen Blackbelt Academy with pal Dave Trotter - has fought on the international stage before, but after a break from the sport he has got that buzz back.

“I was watching people from the academy compete and it made me want to get back involved,” he told The Standard.

“I was seeing some of my old coaches at tournaments and they persuaded me to do it again.”

Jason is currently on the lookout for sponsorship to help him get to Holland, and he has already received some backing from Batemans Brewery.

Anyone intersted in sponsoring him, or learning more about the academy, which meets at Kirton’s Middlecott Sports Centre on Saturdays, can call Jason on 07836 695928.

Alternatively, call Dave on 07846 277098.
