Tap out victory for MMA Powell

Cage fighter Jamie Powell admitted he ‘went a bit crazy’ after claiming victory on Friday night.

He was competing on a BAMMA (British Association of Mixed Martial Arts) show at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena.

Despite training to fight a southpaw opponent, a late switch saw the Boston flyweight come up against Northern Ireland’s Arnaud Dos Santos.

The first round saw Jamie - who celebrated his 23rd birthday the day before the fight - edge the contest, throwing some good shots and elbows while also connecting - but taking his fair share of - kicks.

Towards the end of the round he took Dos Santos to the ground and, after a few good shots, his opponent reversed the move.

The second round saw Jamie claim victory with a submission move.

After again taking Dos Santos to the ground, Jamie locked him into a rear naked choke hold, which left the Irishman with no alternative but to tap out.

“It was an amazing feeling,” Jamie said.

“I was buzzing from head to toe to win.

“I even climbed up the cage at one point - I went a bit crazy.

“BAMMA is the biggest promotion in Europe, it would be great if I can fight with them again soon.”
