A band opening Boston’s Christmas lights switch-on is hoping to blast off the event in style.

Lost in Orbit is a teenage-band made up of former or current members of Kirton Middlecott, Boston Grammar and Boston High schools.

It will perform music by new and old bands from ZZ Top, Foo Fighters, Green Day, The Beatles, Guns n Roses, Kings of Leon, Kaiser Chiefs, Stereophonics and Oasis.

The band is also in the process of writing some of their own music.

Lost In Orbit consists of Jo Desmond, 17, on drums, Simon Brackner, 17, on lead guitar, Emelio Parla, 17, on bass and vocals and 18-year-old Joshua Battram on rythm guitar and vocals.

Originally formed under the instigation of Joshua who took up the guitar when he was immobilised with a serious foot injury the band’s first gig was privately set up in Frampton, near Boston, where they performed with Fake Theatre which was formed by one of their former school teachers from Kirton Middlecott, Adrian Isted.

Since then the band have played numerous gigs within the Boston and surrounding area in pubs and clubs and for local charity organisations such as the Butterfly Hospice and Lives.

They are hoping to continue the band even when they move into different educational areas such as College and University.

Also at the Christmas Market this weekend, will be a waltzer commissioned in 1964 by Doubtfire’s of Ripon, which was first blessed in Boston on May 3, 1965, and ridden by the mayor at the time - the first blessing of its kind in the town.

It is now in private ownership and has been completely refurbished but has been brought back to Boston for the festive event.
