UKIP councillor Elizabeth Ransome has defended the comments made about her on Channel 4’s 10 O’clock Live show.
As reported by The Standard yesterday, Miss Ransome, of Boston, came under attack from comedian Charlie Brooker on the satirical show for a Facebook status she issued via her personal profile.
She told The Standard today: “There has been a lot of critisism made of my Facebook page which has always been personal and never used in campaigning, nor ever would.
“The Channel 4 programme has a satirical outlook that keeps up a long tradition of such in this country.
“I would point out that as a new generation of younger councillors this sort of critisism/publicity does not always provide the encouragement to do public service but is something I must rise above.
She added: “I intend to learn from my more experienced UKIP colleagues at County Hall and also other ex-councillors who have very kindly offered their support and assistance, helping me to progress on to becoming a useful representative for the people of Fishtoft electoral division to which I was elected.”
