Craig Elliott came to the defence of goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons following Boston United's 2-2 draw with Kettering Town.

The Pilgrims keeper looked to be at fault for the Poppies two first half goals as Connor Kennedy's tame effort beat him before Decarrey Sheriff's strike squirmed through his legs at the near post.

"He's been fantastic this season and that's the life of the goalkeeper," Elliott told BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

"I said that to him at half time. There's no blame.

"The only thing he can do is go out in the second half and keep a clean sheet, that gives us a chance and he did that.

"That shows what a good character he is and he'll bounce back from that."

United looked to be on top until those Poppies goals. And despite trailing 2-0 at the interval, Elliott was reasonably pleased with the performance.

"I felt it was harsh on us at half time," he added.

"We felt pretty comfortable but a couple of errors and you're 2-0 down.

"I felt we didn't do too much wrong, a couple of mistakes and we got punished.

"I felt it did flatter them, but i felt that if we got the first goal (in the second half) we'd get something from the game and I was proved right in the end."

Jordan Burrow pulled one back with his fifth of the season before skipper Luke Shiels' header earned a point.

"He's been playing fantastic and I won't judge him on his goals alone," Elliott said of Burrow.

"He's a fantastic focal point for the team.

"We scored the goals at the right time to go on and win the game and I think they got back in the game a little bit again with the counter attacks.

Probably, in the end, we didn't do enough to get the winner."
