Pilgrims set to face Reds for second time in eight days...

Craig Elliott is looking forward to having more options at his disposal as Boston United prepare to face Alfreton Town for the second time in eight days.

United head to the Impact Arena on Saturday looking for another three points against Billy Heath’s side following Boxing Day’s 2-0 victory at the Jakemans Community Stadium.

While Elliott may be keen on a repeat performance on the pitch, his bench - and starting XI - may have a very different look.

Striker Jordan Thewlis and midfielder Mitch Rose will be available for selection after their three match bans concluded following the 4-0 victory at Farsley Celtic on Monday.

Playmaker Andi Thanoj is also expected to be available to face his former club after missing the past three contests with a thigh problem.

Skipper Luke Shiels - another ex-Red - returned to face Farsley after injuring his knee at the weekend, described as 'colossal' by Elliott following another impressive performance.

“Andi should be ready for Saturday, and with Mitch and Jordan available again we should look a lot stronger again with the options we have,” said manager Elliott, who has no qualms about facing Alfreton twice in such a short space of time.

“I’m a fan of the festive season - I love it. It’s a nice time of year to play games.

“Normally it’s a different atmosphere as you get a lot of fans in. It’s difficult and without fans, anything can happen.

“It’s not an advantage to anybody. There’ll be some interesting results because of fans not being in over the festive period and injuries, with clubs playing lots of games.”
